    Each year, our community takes time to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., reflecting on the values that continue to shape our work with neurodiverse learners and the city we call home.

    A School Wide Moment of Learning

    In the days leading up to the holiday, students and teachers engaged in age appropriate conversations, readings, and activities centered on empathy, courage, and community. These moments were not about a single observance. They were about helping students understand the principles that guide a meaningful life and a just society.

    Connecting Dr. King’s Legacy to Savannah

    Savannah holds a significant place in the civil rights movement. Local leaders like W. W. Law, Ralph Mark Gilbert, and countless young people helped shape the peaceful protests and community organizing that defined this city’s role in the national push for equality. Their work created lasting change in Savannah and continues to influence how our community understands justice, dignity, and opportunity.

    At Royce, we honor that history by ensuring every learner is seen, supported, and given the chance to thrive, whether they are with us for a year as they prepare to transition back to a traditional school or remain at Royce for their entire educational path.

    A Night That Marked a New Chapter

    On January 15th, members of the Royce community gathered at the Mingledorff residence for an evening that reflected both our history and our future. The event marked the public launch of The Royce School, bringing together families, educators, board members, area school leaders, and supporters from local businesses and government – all united by a shared belief in the potential of neurodiverse learners.

    A Community Coming Together

    The gathering wasn’t about celebration for its own sake. It was about clarity, unity, and the next step in a mission that has guided our programs for decades. The evening offered space to connect, reflect, and recognize the work happening across our school every day.

    Introducing New Leadership

    One of the most significant moments of the night was the introduction of Danny Howell as The Royce School’s new Executive Director. His experience, steady leadership, and commitment to students will help guide Royce into its next chapter.

    A Message From Our Head of School

    Laci Culbreth, Head of School, delivered a passionate and deeply grounded message about why our work matters. She spoke about the critical need for specialized instruction and shared how Royce students consistently exceed expectations – including their success in dual enrollment programs that challenge and inspire them.

    Launching the 2026 Annual Fund

    Board member and Development Committee Chair Cason Carter announced the start of our 2026 Annual Fund Campaign, with a goal of $100,000. He also shared a challenge to match a significant gift toward our future inclusive playground, a project designed to support students of all abilities.

  • Welcoming Patty Tucker to The Royce School

    A New Chapter in Student and Family Support

    The Royce School is pleased to welcome Patty Tucker as our new Educational Services Coordinator. In this role, Patty will help families navigate academic supports, coordinate student services, and ensure that communication between teachers, specialists, and parents remains clear and consistent. She will also assist with scheduling, program coordination, and the day to day systems that help students receive the individualized support they need to thrive.

    Honoring Sally Greenberg’s Years of Service

    Patty steps into this position following the retirement of Sally Greenberg, who served our school community with dedication through her work in the Tutoring Program. We are deeply grateful for Sally’s many years of care, professionalism, and support. Her contributions have made a lasting impact on the students and families she served.

    Celebrating Dedication and School Spirit

    Matthew demonstrated remarkable hard work throughout the entire production process. His consistency, focus, and willingness to support his classmates helped create a smooth and successful performance. Matthew’s dedication reflects the heart of the Royce spirit, where effort, teamwork, and perseverance make all the difference.

    Maggie’s Adaptability and Leadership

    When the cast needed someone to step into the role of Mrs. Claus at the last minute, Maggie rose to the challenge with confidence and grace. Her adaptability, quick learning, and natural stage presence helped keep the production on track and brought warmth and humor to the performance. Maggie’s ability to step up on short notice is a powerful example of leadership in action.

    Both Matthew and Maggie showed what it means to support their peers, embrace challenges, and contribute to something larger than themselves. Their efforts helped make the winter play a memorable experience for our students, families, and staff.
