  • The Teammate Everyone Wants: Jaaden’s Spotlight Story

When you talk to senior Jaaden about basketball, you don’t just hear about the sport — you hear about commitment, resilience, and the power of showing up for the people around you. It’s no surprise he was recently nominated for Student Spotlight at Royce and recognized as Teammate of the Week for the Savannah Jaguars.

“I got nominated because of the effort I put into the team,” he explains. “Even though I don’t get put on the court that often, I still get my team’s support — and I give them mine.”

For Jaaden, being a teammate isn’t about minutes played. It’s about attitude. After every game, win or lose, he’s the one reminding the team what really matters.

“If we don’t win, it doesn’t matter how,” he says. “I tell them we did better than the last game. And if we didn’t, then we know what we’ve got to work on and improve.”

That mindset carries into practice too. Even when he’s hurting — literally — he refuses to hold back.

“One time my ankle was hurting, but I still tried to give 100%. Even if something’s holding me back, I still go all out.”

The Jaguars practice at the Winter Forest Baptist Church gym, where the energy is loud, supportive, and full of familiar faces. Several of Jaaden’s Royce classmates — Ahmed Minor, Thomas Davis, and Tamaj Williams — are right there beside him.

“We’re a team together,” he says. “I feel like the basketball team actually brought me closer to my friends. It really helped me improve — not just my basketball skills, but me.”

That’s the heart of Jaaden’s story: effort that inspires others, a team that lifts each other up, and a student who has grown through every challenge he’s faced.

At Royce, we celebrate students who lead with character, resilience, and heart. Jaaden embodies all three.

  • Celebrating Grandparents Day at Royce

    Honoring Family Connections

This year, The Royce School welcomed grandparents from near and far to celebrate Grandparents Day a little early. The school hosted a special lunch to honor the remarkable role grandparents play in our students’ lives, highlighting the importance of family connections, community, and inter-generational support.

A Day of Joy and Connection

Grandparents had the opportunity to connect with teachers, meet other families, and celebrate their grandchildren’s achievements in a meaningful way. The event was filled with warmth, laughter, and pride as students shared their school experiences with the people who cheer them on every step of the way.

    Gratitude for Lasting Impact

The Royce School is deeply grateful to all the grandparents who joined us for this memorable day. Your presence, encouragement, and love make a lasting impact on our students and our school community. Grandparents Day reminds us that education and family are strongest when celebrated together.

  • 🇺🇸 Why We Raise and Lower the Flag Each Day at The Royce School

🇺🇸 Why We Raise and Lower the Flag Each Day at The Royce School

Every morning at The Royce School, students gather to raise the American flag. And every afternoon, they lower it with care. It’s a quiet ritual—simple, respectful, and deeply meaningful.

But it’s more than tradition. It’s a daily act of reflection, responsibility, and belonging.

    🎓 A Teachable Moment

For our students, many of whom learn differently, routines matter. Predictable structure helps build confidence and calm. The flag ceremony is one of those grounding moments—a way to start and end the day with intention.

It’s also a chance to teach:

    • Respect for symbols and shared values
    • Responsibility through student-led participation
    • Community by honoring something bigger than ourselves

Students learn how to fold the flag properly, how to handle it with care, and why it matters. They ask questions. They take turns. They take pride.

    💙 A Symbol of Inclusion

At Royce, we believe the flag represents not just a nation—but a promise. A promise that every student deserves access to education, dignity, and opportunity. That differences are strengths. That every learner belongs.

By raising the flag each morning, we affirm that promise. By lowering it each afternoon, we reflect on how we’ve lived it.

    🌟 More Than a Gesture

In a school built around empathy, structure, and growth, even small rituals carry weight. The flag ceremony reminds us that we’re part of something larger—and that our students, with all their unique strengths, are shaping the future of that something.

It’s not just about patriotism. It’s about purpose.

  • 💙 Who We Serve: Empowering Students Who Learn Differently

💙 Who We Serve: Empowering Students Who Learn Differently

At The Royce School, we believe that every child deserves an education that fits—not one they have to fit into. Our students are intellectually capable, curious, and motivated. They’re bright thinkers and creative problem-solvers. But many have struggled in traditional classrooms that weren’t built with their learning styles in mind.

    We serve students who:

    • Experience difficulty with conventional instruction in reading, writing, math, or attention
    • Benefit from more explicit, structured, or multisensory teaching
    • Thrive in small class sizes with predictable routines and individualized support
    • Seek an environment where learning feels possible, manageable, and confidence-building

Our students aren’t defined by their challenges—they’re defined by their potential. And at Royce, we help unlock it.

    🧠 Specialized Support, Expert Educators

Our teachers are highly trained to support students with:

    • Dyslexia
    • Dysgraphia
    • Dyscalculia
    • ADHD
    • Anxiety
    • Autism Spectrum (ASD)
    • Specific Learning Disabilities in reading, writing, and math

We use evidence-based strategies, personalized learning plans, and a whole-child approach to ensure every student feels seen, supported, and successful.

🌱 A Place Where Learning Feels Right

For many families, Royce is the first place where their child feels truly understood. Our classrooms are calm, structured, and joyful. Our teachers meet students where they are—and help them grow from there. And our community celebrates differences as strengths.

If your child is bright, curious, and struggling to thrive in a traditional setting, The Royce School may be the right fit. We’re here to help learning feel possible again.

  • 🥫 Over One Ton of Generosity: The Royce School Supports Second Harvest

🥫 Over One Ton of Generosity: The Royce School Supports Second Harvest

At The Royce School, we believe that education extends beyond the classroom—it’s about building character, compassion, and community. This fall, our students, families, and staff came together in a powerful way, collecting over one ton of food for America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia.

That’s right – more than 2,000 pounds of canned goods, pantry staples, and non-perishable items were donated to help fight hunger in our region. What began as a simple school-wide food drive quickly grew into a movement of generosity, with students eagerly stacking boxes, counting cans, and learning firsthand what it means to make a difference.

    💛 Learning Through Giving

For our neurodiverse learners, this wasn’t just a service project – it was a chance to connect, contribute, and lead. Teachers wove the food drive into classroom discussions about empathy, equity, and civic responsibility. Students created posters, tracked donations, and even helped sort items for delivery.

“This is what community looks like,” said one faculty member. “Our students saw a need, and they responded with heart.”

    🚚 Impact That Matters

The food collected will go directly to families in need across Coastal Georgia, through the incredible work of Second Harvest. Especially during the holiday season, these donations provide not just nourishment—but hope.

We’re proud to partner with organizations like Second Harvest that share our commitment to inclusion, dignity, and care. And we’re even prouder of our students, who showed that small acts – when multiplied – can create big change.

    📦 Thank You, Royce Community

To every student who brought in a can, every parent who filled a bag, and every staff member who encouraged participation: thank you. Your generosity reflects the spirit of Royce – where we lift each other up and lead with kindness.

  • Friendsgiving at Royce: A Celebration of Community and Gratitude

    Giving Thanks Together

As Thanksgiving approaches, The Royce School pauses to give thanks for the people who make our community so special. Friendsgiving—a celebration of appreciation and love for those who feel like family—has quickly become one of our favorite traditions. Unlike traditional Thanksgiving, Friendsgiving highlights the chosen loved ones we gather throughout our lives. With busy schedules and the holiday season approaching, this evening offers a chance to slow down, share a meal, and appreciate the people who make school a little less stressful and a lot more joyful.

A Feast of Laughter and Connection

This year, the student body celebrated Friendsgiving with the same joy as years past, filling the day with good food, laughter, and a strong sense of community. Parents generously contributed a wide variety of dishes—from apple pie to pizza—ensuring there was more than enough for everyone. Upperclassmen pitched in as well, helping organize and keep the celebration running smoothly.

    Lower School Highlights

The lower school celebration was especially heartwarming. Students memorized and performed a beautiful poem about gratitude, sharing their voices with teachers, peers, and families. After plates piled high with mac and cheese, green beans, and the always‑beloved Hawaiian rolls, students visited the Thanksgiving photo booth to capture happy moments with classmates. The rest of the day was filled with movies, desserts, and laughter as the school prepared for the upcoming holiday break.

    What Friendsgiving Means to Royce

As the celebration came to a close, what stood out most was the sense of support that surrounds every student at The Royce School. Friendsgiving reminded us that our community is built not just on classrooms and lessons, but on people who show up for one another. We are especially grateful to the parents who took time out of their busy schedules to prepare food, attend the celebration, and share in the joy of the day.

At Royce, Friendsgiving is more than a meal—it’s a reminder of the warmth, support, and connection that define our school. We are deeply appreciative of every member of our community—students, parents, teachers, and staff—who help make Royce a place where gratitude and belonging shine.

  • 🍋 Learning, Giving, and Growing: Mrs. Hearn’s Class Supports Ronald McDonald House

🍋 Learning, Giving, and Growing: Mrs. Hearn’s Class Supports Ronald McDonald House

At The Royce School, learning doesn’t stop at the classroom door—it extends into the community. This fall, Mrs. Hearn’s class had the special opportunity to tour the Ronald McDonald House of the Coastal Empire and present a donation of nearly $500. Their gift will provide meals and comfort for families staying at the House, covering four nights of food and support.

    📚 From Literature to Life

The project was inspired by the class’s reading of The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies, a story about entrepreneurship, teamwork, and generosity. Students took those lessons to heart, turning them into real-world action.

To raise the funds, Mrs. Hearn’s class organized a lemonade stand during pickup and dismissal, inviting families and staff to support their cause. With every cup poured, students practiced math skills, teamwork, and communication—while learning the joy of giving back.

    💙 A Community Connection

The Ronald McDonald House offers families a place to stay while their children receive medical care, ensuring they are supported during challenging times. By contributing to this mission, Royce students learned firsthand about empathy, responsibility, and the power of giving back.

    🌟 More Than a Donation

What makes this moment truly special is the spirit behind it. Mrs. Hearn’s class didn’t just raise money—they raised awareness, strengthened bonds, and showed that students can be leaders in kindness. Their generosity reflects the values we hold dear at Royce: inclusion, compassion, and community.

We are so proud of Mrs. Hearn’s class for turning a lesson into action and for showing that learning, when paired with empathy, can change lives.

  • 🪔 Celebrating Diwali: The Festival of Lights

🪔 Celebrating Diwali: The Festival of Lights

At The Royce School, we honor traditions that bring light, joy, and meaning to our diverse community. This month, families around the world celebrate Diwali, one of the most important festivals in Hinduism, Jainism, and Sikhism. Known as the Festival of Lights, Diwali symbolizes the victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.

    🌟 What Is Diwali?

The word Diwali comes from the Sanskrit term Dipavali, meaning “row of lights.” The celebration typically lasts five days, with each day marked by unique rituals and gatherings. Homes and temples are illuminated with diyas (oil lamps), colorful rangoli designs decorate floors, and families come together to share sweets, exchange gifts, and reflect on gratitude.

For Hindus, Diwali commemorates the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after defeating the demon king Ravana, a story from the epic Ramayana. For Jains, it marks the enlightenment of Lord Mahavira, while Sikhs celebrate Guru Hargobind’s release from captivity—each tradition emphasizing renewal, freedom, and hope.

    🕊 Lessons for Our Community

While Diwali is rooted in specific faith traditions, its themes resonate universally. At Royce, we see parallels between Diwali’s message and our mission:

    • Light over darkness → Every student’s potential shines when given the right support.
    • Good over evil → We teach resilience, empathy, and the courage to face challenges.
    • Knowledge over ignorance → Our classrooms celebrate curiosity, creativity, and lifelong learning.

Diwali reminds us that education, like light, has the power to transform lives.

💙 Wishing Our Families Joy and Light

To our families who celebrate, we wish you a Diwali filled with peace, prosperity, and joy. And to our entire community, may this season inspire us all to bring more light into the world—through kindness, inclusion, and the belief that every child can thrive.

From all of us at The Royce School, Happy Diwali!

  • 🇺🇸 Honoring Labor Day: A Celebration of Work and Community

🇺🇸 Honoring Labor Day: A Celebration of Work and Community

Each September, we pause to honor Labor Day—a holiday dedicated to recognizing the contributions of American workers and the strength they bring to our nation.

contributions of American workers and the strength they bring to our nation.

🌟 The History of Labor Day

Labor Day is celebrated on the first Monday in September. It began in the late 19th century, when labor activists sought a day to honor the achievements of workers who helped build America’s prosperity. The first Labor Day parade took place in New York City in 1882, organized by the Central Labor Union. By 1894, Congress passed legislation making Labor Day a national holiday.

The holiday was born during a time when workers faced long hours, unsafe conditions, and little protection. Labor unions fought for fair wages, safer workplaces, and the rights we now take for granted. Labor Day became a symbol of progress and a reminder of the dignity of work.

🎓 Why It Matters for Our Students

At The Royce School, we see Labor Day as more than a day off—it’s a chance to teach students about:

    • Respect for hard work and the people who make our communities thrive
    • Gratitude for the teachers, staff, and families who dedicate themselves to supporting children
    • Balance, reminding us that rest and renewal are essential parts of growth

Just as workers fought for fair opportunities, our mission is to ensure every student has access to education that fits their needs. Labor Day reminds us that progress comes from persistence, collaboration, and care.

🌱 A Time to Rest and Reflect

Traditionally, Labor Day also marks the end of summer and the beginning of a new school season. Families celebrate with parades, picnics, and time together. For our community, it’s a moment to pause, recharge, and reflect on the value of both work and rest.

From all of us at The Royce School, we wish our families a peaceful Labor Day filled with gratitude, rest, and time together. May this holiday inspire us to honor the work of others and continue building a community where every child can thrive.
