50+ Years of Excellence

The Royce School Difference
Curriculum

At The Royce School, we believe that how students learn is just as important as what they learn. Our specialized curriculum is designed specifically for students with learning differences, using research-based, multisensory instructional methods that make learning accessible, engaging, and effective. From our Lower School through Upper School, we tailor education to meet each student exactly where they are, building on strengths while addressing challenges with expert, compassionate instruction.

Whether your child is in elementary, middle, or high school, our small class sizes and individualized approach ensure that no student is overlooked or left behind. We don’t just teach subjects—we teach students how to learn, advocate for themselves, and build the confidence they need to succeed both in and beyond the classroom.

Lower School Curriculum

The Lower School lays the essential foundation for lifelong learning by building strong literacy, numeracy, and critical thinking skills in a nurturing, structured environment. We understand that the early years are pivotal for students with learning differences, and our specialized approach ensures that every child develops confidence, competence, and a genuine love of learning.

Foundational Skills with Proven Methods

Our Lower School curriculum emphasizes core subjects—Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies—using evidence-based, multisensory instructional strategies tailored to how students with dyslexia, ADHD, and other learning differences learn best. Through programs like Orton-Gillingham for literacy instruction and hands-on, concrete approaches to math, we make abstract concepts accessible and engaging. Every lesson is designed to meet students where they are and move them forward at their own pace.

Small Classes, Big Growth

With small class sizes and low student-to-teacher ratios, our educators provide individualized attention that allows them to recognize each child’s unique strengths and challenges. Students receive immediate feedback, targeted support, and plenty of opportunities to practice new skills in a safe, encouraging atmosphere. We celebrate progress—no matter how small—and build on successes to foster resilience and self-confidence.

Beyond Academics

Our Lower School curriculum also emphasizes social-emotional learning, executive functioning skills, and character development. Students learn how to work collaboratively, regulate emotions, follow routines, and develop the organizational skills that set them up for success in middle school and beyond. Through structured play, creative activities, and meaningful connections with peers and teachers, students discover that school is a place where they belong.

In the Lower School, we don’t just teach students to read, write, and calculate—we teach them that they are capable, valued, and ready to learn.

Middle School Curriculum

The Middle School years are a time of significant growth, exploration, and increasing independence. Our curriculum is designed to meet students at this pivotal stage, providing rigorous academic instruction while building the executive functioning skills, self-advocacy, and confidence they need to navigate the challenges of adolescence and prepare for high school.

Academic Rigor Meets Individualized Support

Our Middle School curriculum covers comprehensive core subjects—English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and electives—all taught through specialized, multisensory methods that make learning accessible and engaging for students with learning differences. We maintain high academic standards while adapting instruction to match each student’s learning profile, ensuring they’re challenged appropriately without becoming overwhelmed. Small class sizes allow teachers to provide targeted support, differentiate lessons, and help students develop deeper understanding across all subject areas.

Building Independence and Self-Advocacy

Middle School is when students begin to take ownership of their learning. Our curriculum emphasizes executive functioning skills like organization, time management, note-taking, and study strategies that are essential for academic success. We teach students to understand their own learning strengths and challenges, communicate their needs effectively, and develop problem-solving skills that extend beyond the classroom. Through structured routines, clear expectations, and consistent support, students learn to manage increased responsibilities with growing confidence.

Social-Emotional Growth and Peer Connection

Adolescence brings unique social and emotional challenges, especially for students with learning differences. Our Middle School program integrates social-emotional learning throughout the day, helping students navigate friendships, handle conflicts, regulate emotions, and build resilience. Through collaborative projects, clubs, and meaningful peer interactions, students develop the social skills and self-awareness that are just as important as academic achievement.

Preparing for the Future

Whether your child’s goal is transitioning to a traditional high school, continuing at Royce, or exploring other educational pathways, our Middle School curriculum provides the academic foundation and personal skills needed for success. We work closely with families to create individualized plans that support each student’s unique journey.

In the Middle School, we meet students in the middle—bridging the gap between childhood and young adulthood with understanding, expertise, and unwavering support.

Upper School Curriculum

Our high school program is designed to prepare students for life beyond graduation—whether that means transitioning to traditional high schools, pursuing college or trade school, entering the workforce, or continuing specialized education. We understand that students with learning differences need more than just modified assignments; they need a curriculum that’s intentionally structured to build both academic competence and real-world skills.

Rigorous Academics, Personalized Approach

Our high school curriculum covers core academic subjects including English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and electives, all taught through evidence-based, multisensory instructional methods. Small class sizes ensure that every student receives individualized attention, allowing teachers to adapt lessons to match each learner’s strengths, challenges, and pace. We don’t water down content—we make it accessible.

Building Skills for Independence

Beyond academics, our high school program emphasizes executive functioning skills, self-advocacy, time management, and critical thinking. Students learn to understand their own learning profiles, communicate their needs effectively, and develop strategies that will serve them throughout their lives. We integrate technology, collaborative projects, and hands-on learning experiences that mirror real-world expectations.

Preparing for What’s Next

Whether your student’s goal is earning a high school diploma, preparing for college entrance exams, exploring career paths, or developing independent living skills, our curriculum is flexible enough to meet them where they are and guide them toward their unique future. We work closely with families to create individualized education plans that align academic goals with post-graduation aspirations.

High school isn’t just about getting through—it’s about building confidence, competence, and a clear path forward.
